‘Imrān ibn Ḥuṣayn narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: The best of my community are my generation,  then those who follow them,  then those who follow.  ‘Imrān said: I am unsure whether God’s Messenger said twice or three times after his generation.  Then there will come after them people who bear witness without being asked;  are untrue to a trust, pledge but do not fulfil, and obesity will spread among them. 

Anas ibn Mālik narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When a man is laid in his grave, and his friends turn away, he hears the noise of their shoes. Two angels come to him and sit him up. They ask him: ‘What did you say about this man, Muhammad?’  He said: “As for the believer, he will say: I bear witness that he is God’s servant and Messenger”. He will be told: “Look at your place in Hell. God has replaced it for you with a seat in Heaven”. The Prophet said: “He will see both”. As for the unbeliever, or the hypocrite, he will say: I do not know. I said what other people said.  He will be told: May you have never known or said.  He will then be hit by an iron hammer in between his ears. He shall send out a cry which will be heard by those close to him, but not by humans or jinn.   Related by al-Bukhari, 1338; Muslim, 2870.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  The Last Hour shall not arrive until knowledge has been withdrawn; Earthquakes increase; Time draws closer;  Temptations will be prevalent;  Homicide – which is murder, murder – increases; And your wealth becomes plentiful, too plentiful.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:   Hasten to do good deeds before six events:  the Impostor, the smoke, the beast,  the rising of the sun from the west,  the general matter,  and one’s private matter.

Anas ibn Mālik narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:  Every Prophet warned his community against the one-eyed liar.  He is certainly one-eyed, and your Lord is not one-eyed. Between his eyes ‘kāfir’ is written.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: 1. The Last Hour will not arrive until the sun has risen from the west. 2. When it rises from the west all mankind will believe. 3. At that time ‘to believe will be of no avail to any human being who did not believe before, or who did not put its faith to good use’. (6: 158) Related by al-Bukhari, 4635; Muslim, 157

‘Adiy ibn Ḥātim narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: God shall speak to every single one of you, with no interpreter between Him and you. A person shall look to his right and will see nothing but what he has done; and shall look to his left and will see nothing but what he has done; and shall look in front of him and only see the Fire facing him.  Guard yourselves against the Fire, even with half a date. Whoever does not find that, then even with a good word. Related by al-Bukhari, 7512; Muslim, 1016.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  1. This fire of yours which a person lights up has the heat of one out of seventy portions of Hell’s heat.  2. People said: By God, it would have been sufficient [as it is], Messenger of God.  3. He said: It is made greater by sixty-nine portions, each is similar to it in heat.   Related by al-Bukhari, 3265; Muslim, 2843.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  1. God said:  2. ‘I have prepared for My devout servants what no eye has ever seen,  3. no ear has ever heard of  4. and no human mind has ever thought of’.  5. Read, if you will: ‘No one can imagine what blissful delights have been kept in store for them as a reward for what they used to do’. (32: 17) 

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 1. When God brought His creation into existence, He wrote in His Book, 2. which is with Him above the Throne: 3. My Mercy prevails over My Wrath. Related by al-Bukhari, 3194; Muslim, 2751.

‘Abdullāh ibn Mas‘ūd narrated: God’s Messenger, the truthful and who is given the truth, said: 1. The creation of any one of you is brought together in his mother’s womb for forty days, then he is a clinging cell mass for a similar period, then he is an embryo for a similar period. 2. Then God sends him an angel who is commanded to write four words: he writes down his means of livelihood, lifespan, actions and whether he is happy or unhappy. 3. Then the breath of life is blown into him. 4. Any one of you may behave like the people of Hell until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, but that which has been written overtakes him. He will behave like the people of Heaven and thus he enters it. 5. And any one of you may behave like the people of Heaven until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, but that which has been written overtakes him. He will behave like the people of Hell and thus he enters it.’ .Related by al-Bukhari, 3332; Muslim, 2643

Ibn ‘Abbās narrated: One day I was riding behind God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) when he said to me: 1. Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: 2. Be mindful of God, 3. and God will protect you. 4. Be mindful of God and you will find Him in front of you. 5. If you ask, ask of God; 6. If you seek help, seek God’s help. 7. Know that if the entire community collaborates to benefit you with anything, they shall benefit you only with something God has already willed for you; and if they collaborate to harm you with anything, they shall harm you only with something God has already willed for you. 8. All pens have been lifted and all scrolls have dried.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: 1. A strong believer is better and dearer to God than a weak believer, 2. but there is goodness in both. 3. Make sure to have what benefits you. 4. Seek God’s help and do not feel helpless. 5. If something happens to you, do not say: had I done this, such-and-such would have happened. 6. Rather, say: This is God’s will and whatever God wills shall happen. 7. Expressions of regret open the gate for 

Anas ibn Mālik narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 1. There shall be no disease transmission 2. and no ill omen. 3. I like good omens. People asked: ‘What is a good omen?’ He said: ‘A good word’.  

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: 1. Look at those below you 2. and do not look at those above you. 3. You will then be less likely to belittle God’s favour. Related by Muslim, 2963

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 1. Four qualities:‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 1. Four qualities: whoever combines them is a total hypocrite, and whoever has one of them has a quality of hypocrisy unless he abandons it: 2. when he is placed in trust, he betrays; 3. when he speaks, he lies; 4. when he gives a pledge, he is treacherous; 5. and when he quarrels, he resorts to falsehood. Related by al-Bukhari, 34; Muslim

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever goes to a fortune teller or soothsayer and believes what he says disbelieves in what has been revealed to Muhammad. Related by Abu Dāwūd, 3904 ; al-Tirmidhī, 135 ; al-Nasāʼī, 9017 ; Ibn Mājah, 639 .

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:  1. God does not look at either your bodies or forms.  2. He only looks at your hearts. He pointed with his fingers to his chest. Related by Muslim, 4779.

Anas narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 1. Three qualities: when combined by a person, ensure that that person will experience, through them, the sweetness of faith: 2. that God and His Messenger are dearer to him than anyone else; 3. that he loves a person for no reason other than for God’s sake; 4. and that now that God has saved him from disbelief, he hates to return to it just as he hates to be thrown into the Fire.

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudrī narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 1. You shall follow the ways of those who were before you, 2. inch by inch, cubit by cubit. 3. Even if they go into a lizard’s hole, you will follow their suit. 4. We said: “Messenger of God, the Jews and Christians?’ He said: ‘Who else?”
