‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar narrated that  1. God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) made Zakat al-Fiṭr at the end of Ramadan obligatory on people:  2. one ṣā‘ of dates, or one ṣā‘ of barley  3. for every Muslim, whether a free person or slave, male or female, young or old.  4. He ordered that it should be paid before people go out to join the [Eid] Prayer. Related by al-Bukhari, 1507; Muslim, 984.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:  1. God, Mighty and Exalted, said: ‘All man’s actions are his except fasting: it is Mine and I reward it’.  2. Fasting is a shield.  3. If any of you is fasting, he must neither say what is obscene nor shout. If someone abuses him verbally or quarrels with him, he should say: ‘I am a fasting person’.  4. By Him who holds Muhammad’s soul in His hand, the changing mouth smell of a fasting person is sweeter in God’s view, on the Day of Resurrection, than the smell of musk.  5. A fasting person has two occasions to rejoice: when he ends his fast he rejoices at having completed his fast, and when he meets his Lord, he rejoices at having fasted. Related by al-Bukhari, 1904; Muslim, 1151.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:  1. Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan, out of faith and with dedication, shall have his past sins forgiven,  2. and whoever spends the Night of Power in worship, out of faith and with dedication, shall have his past sins forgiven. Related by al-Bukhari, 1901; Muslim, [760].  Abu Hurayrah also narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  3. Whoever attends to night worship during Ramadan, out of faith and with dedication, shall have his past sins forgiven. Related by al-Bukhari, 37; Muslim, . [759]

Abu Hurayrah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:  If one will not abandon saying and acting on what is false and wrong deeds, God is in no need of him abandoning his food and drink.  Related by al-Bukhari, 6057.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  Whoever comes to this House and commits neither lewdness nor wicked conduct returns as pure as on the day of his birth. Related by al-Bukhari, 1820; Muslim, 1350.

Abu Hurayrah narrated, saying:  1. God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) addressed us and said: ‘God has made the hajj obligatory to you, people, so perform the hajj’.  2. A man said: “Every year, Messenger of God?” The Prophet remained silent while the man repeated his question three times.  3. God’s Messenger said: ‘Had I said, “Yes”, it would be a duty and you would not be able to fulfil it’.  4. He then added: ‘When I leave out something, let it be.  5. People before you were ruined by asking too many questions and by their disobedience of their prophets.  6. When I give you an order, fulfil it as best you can, and if I prohibit you something, abandon it’. Related by Muslim, 1337.

Jābir narrated:  1. I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) stoning while riding his she-camel on the Day of Sacrifice,  2. and he said: ‘Learn your rituals.  3. I do not know but I may not perform the hajj after this hajj of mine’.  Related by Muslim, 1297.

ꜤUbaydullāh ibn Miḥṣan al-Khaṭmī narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  Whoever wakes up in the morning feeling secure in his dwelling place, enjoying good personal health, having enough food for the day is like one who has the world at his disposal. Related by al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad, 300; al-Tirmidhī, 2346; Ibn Mājah, 4141.

‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:  1. Were you to place your trust in God as truly as it should be, He would have given you your provisions in the same way as birds are provided with theirs;  2. They begin the day hungry and finish it well fed.  Related by Ahmad, 205; al-Nasāʼī, 11805; al-Tirmidhī, 2344.

Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh narrated that he heard God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) say when in Makkah during the Year of Victory:  1. God and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine,  2. carrion,  3. pork  4. and idols.  5. People said: ‘Messenger of God, the fat of carrion is used as a coating for boats, varnishing hide and people use it in their lanterns?’ The Prophet said: ‘No. It is forbidden’.  6. God’s Messenger then said: ‘May God curse the Jews. When God, Mighty and Exalted, forbade them the fat of carrion, they melted it and sold it, devouring its price’.  Related by al-Bukhari, 2236; Muslim, 1581.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that  1. As he was passing by, God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saw a heap of food [on sale]. He put his hand into it and felt that it was wet underneath.  2. He said: ‘O food seller, what is this?’ The man said: ‘Messenger of God, it has been affected by rain’.  3. The Prophet said: ‘Would it not be better for you to put it on top so that people can see it?  4. Whoever cheats does not belong to me. Related by Muslim, 102.

 Jābir ibn ꜤAbdullāh narrated: 1. God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) cursed 2. the one who devours usury, 3. the one who pays it, 4. the one who writes [the agreement] 5. and the two witnesses. 6. He said: ‘They are all the same’. .Related by Muslim, 1598

Abu Hurayrah narrated, saying: 1. God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) prohibited the sale effected by the casting of a stone 2. and the sale lacking clarity.   Related by Muslim, 1513.

ꜤAbdullāh said: We were young men with God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) and we had nothing. The Prophet said to us: 1. Young people, whoever of you can meet marriage requirements, should get married. For marriage helps to lower one’s gaze and maintain chastity. 2. Whoever cannot, may resort to fasting, and it will be of help. Related by al-Bukhari, ; Muslim, 1200.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A woman is sought in marriage for four things: her wealth, family lineage, beauty and faith. Make sure to have the religious one, [for if you do not] you end up the poorer. Related by al-Bukhari, 5090; Muslim, 1466.

‘Āʾishah, the Prophet’s wife, narrated that 1. God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) was with her when she heard the voice of a man seeking permission to enter Ḥafṣah’s home. I said: “Messenger of God, there is a man seeking entry to your home”. God’s Messenger said: “I think he is so-and-so”, (mentioning Ḥafṣah’s uncle through breastfeeding). 2. ꜤĀʾishah said: “Had such-and-such (mentioning her own uncle through breastfeeding) been alive, would he enter my home?” He said: “Yes, breastfeeding blocks marriages in the same way as birth”. Related by al-Bukhari, 2646; Muslim, 1444.

Jābir ibn ꜤAbdullāh narrated, saying: God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: 1. Iblīs takes his throne on the sea. He sends his troops to lead people astray. The best of them in his eyes is the one who leads farthest astray. Some one of them comes and says I have done this and that. He [i.e. Satan] says: ‘You have done very little’. 2. Then another one comes and says: ‘I did not leave this man until I caused a schism between him and his wife’. He brings him close to himself and says: ‘Splendid you are’. Related by Muslim, 2813.

Ibn ‘Umar narrated: 1. that he divorced his wife once when she was in her menstruation period, during the Prophet’s lifetime. 2. ‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb asked God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) about this. 3. God’s Messenger was displeased. 4. God’s Messenger then said to him: ‘Order him to take her back, then to leave her until she is cleansed [from menses], then goes through another menstruation period, and is then cleansed, 5. then he may keep her after that or divorce her before touching her. 6. This is the start of the waiting period at which God, Mighty and Exalted, ordered that women may be divorced’. 7. In another version related by Muslim, the Prophet said: ‘Order him to take her back, then he can divorce her when she is clean or pregnant’.             Related by al-Bukhari, 5251; Muslim, 1471.

Umm ‘Aṭiyyah narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: 1. No woman may be in mourning for a deceased person for more than three days, except for her husband: four months and ten days. 2. She may not wear a coloured dress, except a yarn dress. She may not apply kohl or wear perfume, except that when she finishes her period, she may apply a little incense. ,Related by al-Bukhari, 313; Muslim

Ibn ‘Abbās narrated that God’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Give the stipulated shares to their owners; what is left over goes to the nearest male person. Related by al-Bukhari, 6732; Muslim, 1615.
