عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «لا عَدْوَى وَلا طِيَرَةَ، وَيُعْجِبُنِي الفَأْلُ» قَالُوا: وَمَا الفَأْلُ؟ قَالَ: «كَلِمَةٌ طَيِّبَةٌ» متفق عليه
34 - Bad and good omen
Anas ibn Mālik narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
1. There shall be no disease transmission 2. and no ill omen. 3. I like good omens. People asked: ‘What is a good omen?’ He said: ‘A good word’.
Summary of Meaning
The Prophet (peace be upon him) corrected people’s beliefs inherited from the time of ignorance. He states in this hadith that diseases are not transmitted by nature. Their transmission is rather by God’s will. He prohibited associating ill thoughts with any particular time, place or person. He liked optimism and having a good feeling when hearing a good word
