The Prophet (peace be upon him) directs his community to hasten to do good deeds before they have a time when troubles come thick and fast, causing people to go astray or weaken their faith. A person may be a good believer, but a day or a night passes and he becomes an unbeliever.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) warns against dissimulation and the lack of sincere devotion to God Almighty. He states that dissimulation makes a person’s good work unacceptable to God. As such, God will not reward such action on the Day of Judgement because the person concerned did not dedicate it to Him alone, but rather addressed it to others as well.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentions four of the main characteristics of hypocrites. No Muslim may have any of these characteristics. Whoever combines all these four is a total hypocrite, and whoever has one of them is a partial hypocrite. These four are betrayal of trust, lying, treachery and being wild in a quarrel

The Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us in this hadith that acceptable worship is that which conforms to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Whoever introduces something into Islam which is alien to it will have it rejected. It earns no reward. On the contrary, it incurs a sin.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us that the religion of Islam is easy because its rulings and obligations are easy. Whoever pulls against it and tries to impose on it a strict approach will not be a winner. The religion itself will defeat him and he will find himself unable to continue. Therefore, a Muslim should be keen to do what is right and try to be close to what is right. The Prophet gives us the happy news of receiving a rich reward for the same.   He then tells us about the best times for offering worship. These are the start and end of the day and towards the end of the night

A bedouin asked the Prophet about Islam and the Prophet’s answer detailed the well-known essentials, known as the pillars of Islam. Whoever fulfils them as they should be fulfilled, without addition or omission, will be successful and admitted into Heaven.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentions in this hadith some of the practices that are associated with sound nature God has given to mankind, so that they will be in the best form and shape. The hadith mentions ten of these, namely, trimming one’s moustache, growing one’s beard, brushing teeth, inhaling water and blowing one’s nose, clipping nails, washing finger joints, plucking armpit hair, shaving pubic hair, washing one’s genitals and rinsing one’s mouth.

A man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about using sea water for ablution, i.e. wudu. The Prophet told him that its water is pure and its dead are permissible to eat.

ꜤUthmān performed the ablution following the example of the Prophet as he performed it for prayer. He then told those present that the Prophet said that whoever performs the ablution in the same way and offers two rakꜤahs of prayer, with sincere devotion, will have his past sins forgiven. His prayer and his walk to the mosque will be considered as an additional act of worship that is gained.

‘Ammār ibn Yāsir was in a state of ceremonial impurity when he was on a journey. He could not find water for his ablutions. He, therefore, needed to resort to dry ablution, i.e. tayammum, and he soaked himself in dust in order to be able to pray. When he went back to Madinah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) explained to him how to perform dry ablution, which is to strike the earth with one’s hands and then wipe one’s hands and face.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) states clearly that the difference between Islam and unbelief is negligence of prayer. So, a person who does not pray is an unbeliever.

A man came into the mosque and prayed, then went to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) returned the greeting and ordered the man to repeat his prayer. The man complied and returned, but the Prophet again told him to repeat his prayer. He did this three times. The man told the Prophet that he knew no better. The Prophet then taught him how to pray.

Abu Hurayrah narrates this hadith in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentions that a person who offers a prayer without reciting the Opening Surah, al-Fātiḥah, will find his prayer falls short of an important part that affects its validity. Abu Hurayrah was asked about reciting it when one is with a congregation. He said that it should be recited, due to the importance of a hadith in which the Prophet quotes God saying that He has divided al-Fātiḥah into two halves, retaining one half and giving the other to His servant.

The Prophet (peace be upon him)warned in his address in the mosque against neglecting Friday Prayer. Whoever neglects it shall have his heart sealed by God, and he will go astray and be one of the heedless.

The people of Madinah used to celebrate two days annually in pre-Islamic days. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) migrated to Madinah and saw them celebrating them, he asked the cause of their celebration. They told him. He told them not to mark them anymore, because God has substituted these days for them with the two better days of Eid: al-Fiṭr and al-Aḍḥā.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) states in this hadith that offering an obligatory prayer with a congregation is twenty-seven times better than offering it alone.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentions that the places God likes best are the mosques, where He is worshipped and often remembered. The places He dislikes most are the marketplaces, where people frequently swear false oaths and where cheating, unfairness and deception are often found.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentions some matters that tell of a person’s faith. These are believing in God’s oneness, paying one’s due zakat willingly, seeking God’s pleasure and choosing what is of average quality from his property. If he has animals, then he should not give in zakat those that are ill, old or have clear defects.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us that God is good and He does not accept anything which is not good. Therefore, He has commanded all people to eat of wholesome good food. The Prophet tells us that buying food with earnings that are unlawfully made blocks the  answering of a supplication.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) explains that Zakat al-Fiṭr is payable for every Muslim male or female, free or slave, young or old. For each one, its quantity is one ṣāꜤ of food. It must be paid out before the Eid Prayer.
