Some types of God’s decree

عن عبدِ الله بنِ مسعودٍ قال: حدَّثنا رسولُ الله ﷺ- وهو الصادقُ المصدوقُ -: «إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يُجْمَعُ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ عَلَقَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مُضْغَةً مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ مَلَكًا بِأَرْبَعِ كَلِمَاتٍ، فَيُكْتَبُ عَمَلُهُ، وَأَجَلُهُ، وَرِزْقُهُ، وَشَقِيٌّ أَمْ سَعِيدٌ، ثُمَّ يُنْفَخُ فِيهِ الرُّوحُ، فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، حَتَّى مَا يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهَا إِلَّا ذِرَاعٌ، فَيَسْبِقُ عَلَيْهِ الكِتَابُ، فَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ، فَيَدْخُلُ الجَنَّةَ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ، حَتَّى مَا يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهَاإلَّا ذِرَاعٌ، فَيَسْبِقُ عَلَيْهِ الكِتَابُ، فَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، فَيَدْخُلُ النَّارَ» متفق عليه

‘Abdullāh ibn Mas‘ūd narrated: God’s Messenger, the truthful and who is given the truth, said:

1. The creation of any one of you is brought together in his mother’s womb for forty days, then he is a clinging cell mass for a similar period, then he is an embryo for a similar period. 2. Then God sends him an angel who is commanded to write four words: he writes down his means of livelihood, lifespan, actions and whether he is happy or unhappy. 3. Then the breath of life is blown into him. 4. Any one of you may behave like the people of Hell until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, but that which has been written overtakes him. He will behave like the people of Heaven and thus he enters it. 5. And any one of you may behave like the people of Heaven until there is but an arm’s length between him and it, but that which has been written overtakes him. He will behave like the people of Hell and thus he enters it.’ .

Indeed, We create man out of the essence of clay, (12) then We place him, a gamete, in a safe place of rest. (13) Then We create out of the gamete a clinging cell mass, and out of the clinging cell mass We create an embryo. Then We create within the embryo bones, then We clothe the bones with flesh. We then bring this into being as another creation. Exalted be God, the best of creators. (14) And then, after all this, you are destined to die; (15) and then, you shall be restored to life on the Day of Resurrection.

(23: 12-16)

[It is God], the Almighty, the Ever-Merciful, (6) who makes most excellent everything that He creates. He begins the creation of man out of clay; (7) then He causes his progeny to be begotten out of the essence of a humble fluid; (8) then He fashions him and breathes into him of His spirit. Thus He endows you, mankind, with hearing and sight and hearts. Yet seldom are you grateful!

(32: 6-9)

They question you about the spirit. Say, ‘The [knowledge of the nature of the] spirit belongs to my Lord alone. You, [mankind], have been granted but little knowledge’.

Some people worship God on the border-line [of faith]. If good befalls such a person, he is content; but if a trial assails him, he turns away utterly; thus losing this world and the life to come. This is, indeed, a loss beyond compare. Never will God let people go astray after He has given them guidance
